Gatton Manor has submitted proposals to Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) for a new health and wellness retreat, with medispa facilities on the site of the existing hotel, in the heart of the Surrey Countryside. Proposals include the demolition of the existing buildings on site, to be replaced with a new, state of the art facility designed to enhance the surrounding landscape.
Our proposals also include the retention of the golf course - though without the club facility. The course would be for use of guests, and of other players on a pre-book basis. The type of facility proposed at Gatton Manor is a health and wellness concept that has been highly successful in mainland Europe, in Germany and Austria in particular. It would offer;
* Health diagnostics and healing programmes using tailored nutrition and activities
* Holistic therapies delivered by accredited professionals
* Health lifestyle promotion - for mind, body and spirit
The location and setting of Gatton Manor offers exactly the kind of tranquil and natural surroundings that are appropriate in which to operate such a facility.
We held a public exhibition of our proposals on Thursday 21st July 2016. More than 100 people, including club members, council representatives and neighbours from Ockley, Walliswood and Oakwood Hill joined us on the day. Respondents to the consulation generally expressed their support for the concept as well as being impressed by the design of the facility. We analysed the feedback forms submitted on the day along with the comments and feedback we have received subsequently. The key themes that emerged and our comments are detailed below;
TRAFFIC & TRANSPORT
Concerns have been expressed regarding car access to the property as well as the potential impact on traffic in the area. It is considered that the scheme will generate a reduction in vehicle movements when compared to the periods at which the hotel was operating at its peak, and based on the vehicle movements associated with the extant consent.
In discussion with Surrey County Council (SCC) Highways Department, enhancements to the road will be considered alongside the application; enhancements required associated with construction traffic will be considered as part of a construction management plan.
Should consent be granted, a Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) will be prepared. This would be reserved by planning condition or legal obligation and will be assessed by MDVC and SCC.
The plan will set out details such as routing and delivery times.
Now that our application has been submitted, MVDC will begin preparing the officers report ahead of the committee that will decide our application. You can make comments on the application on the Mole Valley District Council website, following the link here.
The application number is MO/2016/1883.
Comments can be provided as part of the council's statutory consultation period. If you are unable to find the application, please contact the team on 0800 019 2205.
Should planning be granted within the standard determination period, we expect construction to start towards the end of 2017.
Gatton Manor would like to thank those who have explicitly expressed their support for our proposals. We look to reassure those who have expressed their concerns to us, and will continue to keep in touch with those who have expressed interest throughout the planning application period.
